Job Title: Career Coach Location: Lorton, VA 22079
Employment Type:
Full-Time (Monday to Friday)
Salary: Based on education and experience

For over 35 years, Rivermont Schools has provided therapeutic education to students ages 5-22 in grades K-12 who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD), behavioral challenges, or learning difficulties in traditional school settings. Our team of educators, behavior specialists, and therapists work together to provide individualized support that helps students achieve their milestones and transition back to their home schools.

At the heart of our work are our core values — integrity, accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and support — which guide how we show up for students, families, and each other every day.

Why Join Us?

  • Weekday Schedule – Work Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM, following a consistent school-based schedule. No nights or weekends required.
  • Paid School Breaks & Time Off – Enjoy paid school breaks, holidays, and personal time off, ensuring time to recharge and reset.
  • Comprehensive Benefits – Access health, dental, and vision insurance, plus employer-paid short-term disability, life insurance, and flexible spending accounts (FSA/HSA).
  • Financial Perks – Benefit from a 401(k) retirement plan with up to 4% company match, plus employer-paid HSA contributions and life & disability insurance.
  • Professional Development – Advance your career with tuition reimbursement, mentorship programs, leadership training, and pathways to grow into teaching or behavioral health roles.
  • Supportive Team – Collaborate with educators, specialists, and therapists in a positive, inclusive environment with annual awards, Teammate Appreciation Week, and team-building events.
  • Make an Impact – Help students with special needs build life skills, confidence, and independence in a supportive school environment.

Your Role as a Career Coach

  • Support Vocational & Transitional Programming – Help build and sustain a comprehensive vocational program for students, fostering career readiness and independence.
  • Lead the Vocational Committee – Organize, facilitate, and guide the committee’s work to align with program goals and student outcomes.
  • Create Internal Student Opportunities – Design and manage school-based experiences that provide students with practical work-related skills.
  • Develop Community Partnerships – Identify and connect with external organizations to secure volunteer, internship, and job-shadowing opportunities for students.
  • Coordinate W!se Testing – Oversee the administration and logistics of the W!se Financial Literacy Certification program.
  • Provide CPR/First Aid Training – Serve as a certified trainer to ensure staff and student readiness for emergency situations.
  • Facilitate Community-Based Instruction (CBI) – Plan and lead off-campus trips that help students apply skills in real-world settings.

What Helps You Thrive in This Role

You have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Champion Student Independence – You’re passionate about guiding students toward greater self-sufficiency through engaging, real-world learning experiences.
  • Bring Vocational Experience – You have a background in transitional or vocational services and know how to create programs that make a real impact.
  • Think Creatively & Execute Boldly – You’re an innovative problem solver who takes initiative and follows through to bring ideas to life.
  • Support Diverse Learners – You’re confident working across both ABA and PBIS programs and enjoy engaging with middle and high school students.
  • Show Up & Collaborate – You maintain excellent attendance and bring a reliable, team-oriented approach to your work.
  • Drive Safely & Confidently – You have a clean driving record and feel comfortable transporting students in school vehicles.
  • Lead in Safety Training – You are or are open to becoming a certified CPR/First Aid trainer, contributing to a safe and prepared school community.
