Job Description

The Director Western Supply Chain Management (SCM) Unit is accountable and/or responsible for providing an uninterrupted supply of quality products to patients and DCU customers in their respective regions. The product portfolio covers Oncology, Neurology and Established Products distributed both domestically and globally. The team is also responsible for management of CMOs

The Global Supply Chain function collaborates with Regional (Americas, EU, and JP) Commercial, Financial & Supply Business leaders, Product Champions, and Strategic Partners to understand demand. Once demand is identified, the team then works with BD partners/suppliers and CMO vendors to develop appropriate production plans and/or transition plans to meet the demand forecast.

The Director, Western SCM Unit will lead a cross-functional team driving excellence in Import/Export Compliance, Logistics, and Supply Chain support while interfacing closely with other EDCS Units, PQ, and PST leaders to ensure stable supply for the Americas Region. Responsibilities include ensuring an uninterrupted supply of quality products and successful and timely launch of new products.

The Director will oversee Global Logistics and Import/Export compliance for commercial, clinical, and research materials. This includes the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Compliance program and managing all freight identified by Importer of Record (IOR) number along with Canada, Mexico, and Europe for import and compliance management.

This position will provide guidance and recommendations for decisions on supplier selection and contract terms. Additionally, the position is accountable for the development of production schedules, safety stock levels, launch plans, and business contingency plans. The Director, Western SCM Unit is also instrumental in supporting the various Business Development Due Diligence efforts and negotiations (in and out-licensing).

Essential Functions

  • Accountable for providing an uninterrupted supply of quality products to our patients, internal DCU customers, and select Partners, both domestically and globally. Planning and execution for new product launches, line extensions or site manufacturing changes in collaboration with Product Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Technical Operations.
  • Establish productive business relationships for supply related alliances with third party CMOs and Partners. Develop KPIs to allow analysis of the current performance and proactively anticipate potential issues. Serve as primary escalation point to address issues within CMO and/or Network manufacturing sites. Anticipate and overcome obstacles by trouble shooting with Licensor/Supplier/Vendor. Responsible for service, quality, and cost to meet or exceed expectations of patients for BD brands and DCU accountable brands that produced by third Parties. Negotiates price and/or service fees to pursue cost reduction opportunities.
  • Negotiate critical Supply Agreements and Amendments to maintain alignment with PQA. Represent Supply in negotiations of supply agreements with key partners such as Biogen in association with the Alzheimer's Collaboration Agreement.
  • Accountable for the sales and operations planning (S&OP) processes for the Americas region to align supply with actual demand. Develop and communicate performance indicators and coordinate cross-functional work teams to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the complete supply chain and minimize risk of obsolescence or supply interruptions.
  • Ensure full compliance with all CBP, FDA, USDA, DEA, CDC, F&W laws, and regulations by providing clear, concise documentation and answers to questions or concerns regarding pharma shipments.
  • Accountable for ensuring the Global Logistics team continues to maintain and enhance the annual audit process of Eisai's approved freight forwarders / brokers to allow fully compliant transportation and storage of all materials under their control.
  • Understand supplier and industry capabilities and trends to be familiar with the latest status so that Eisai can anticipate potential supply, financial or quality issues and mitigate those risks before they impact the business. Develop institutional knowledge of the industry in the supply organization systems and staff capabilities.
  • Accountable to develop, motivate and retain key personnel to support the management of the Pillar Brands, BD Alliance, and New Market organizations to meet current and future business needs. Develop talent and build a Virtual Supply Chain Center of Excellence capability.
  • Support Internal Business Operations and Business Development for supply related topics associated with Partner divestment, acquisition, or licensing.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Life Science, Supply Chain Management/Logistics, or bio-pharma science related undergraduate degree required. MBA or advanced life science degree preferred.
  • 10+ years working in product supply and/or logistics organizations.
  • Work history should include a global bio/pharmaceutical background including close collaboration with Quality Assurance, significant interface experiences with the Finance, commercial Sales and Marketing organizations, regulatory affairs, and with third party manufacturers.
  • Strong knowledge of international importing/exporting shipping, CBP compliance, and EU VAT compliance with governmental reporting abilities.
  • Ability to provide strategic vision to organization around increasing compliance and reducing costs.
  • Experience developing and leading professional staff required.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills are required to effectively deal with all levels of internal personnel as well as outside third-party customers (e.g. distribution partners in South America) and Strategic Alliance Partners.
  • Cross cultural business experience (including, but not limited to Japan, UK, etc.) required.
  • Candidate must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally (i.e., up to 25%)
