AECOM is actively seeking a Entry-Level Environmental Scientist in Arlington, VA . In this role, you will provide support to military installations, DoD program offices, and Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC).

This position supports our Department of Defense (DoD) client’s mission to maintain compliance with numerous environmental regulations and track hazardous material and hazardous waste at military installations around the world. This position requires data collection, site visits, calculations, report preparation, extensive data research and entry, analysis of data accuracy and consistency, and professional customer support for military and civilian software. Will support cross-departmental – administrative support on technical projects and overall general support for environmental projects. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate aptitude for data management, customer support, and working knowledge of hazardous material and waste management.

The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate aptitude for data management, customer support, and administrative support to technical projects (e.g., project files, project reporting, meeting facilitation, and conference support); development and implementation of data collection methods; development and quality control of project deliverables; and program planning and management activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide administration and operational support for IT systems (e.g., user accounts, password resets, data entry)
  • Provide timely and appropriate support to DoD and other federal clients' hazardous materials and hazardous waste programs
  • Research and retrieve hazardous material safety data sheets from product manufacturers
  • Develop awareness of and familiarity with issues and events affecting organization, department, and/or customer
  • Provide advice and demonstrate use of software and hardware to end-users
  • Conduct data collection at client facilities or virtually over email, track all data collect requests sent and received, review provided data, complete necessary calculations to determine reporting responsibilities, prepare the required reporting forms, and prepare technical memoranda or report to document the efforts
  • Complete work in an office environment as well as field assignments to support installation tasks (e.g., HM/HW inventory management, inspections, shelf-life, AULs, reuse, training)
  • Evaluate data quality and consistency, applications, and functions
  • Use and support database applications and analytical tools
  • Develop and assist with management of compliance programs for federal clients, including tasks associated with audits, planning, reporting, and recordkeeping for multiple environmental media areas
  • Overall general support for environmental projects
  • Meet required schedules while producing quality work
  • Manage personal workloads, apprising project managers of progress and obstacles, and presenting project outputs for final delivery
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and complete multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Work both in a team environment and without supervision
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor
  • Provide administrative support to technical projects
  • Interface with clients to identify technical requirements

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Data Science, or related
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License, and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM’s motor vehicle records review
  • US Citizenship with the capability of passing a National Agency Check, which will be required to gain access to Government IT Systems

  • Effective time-management, strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience providing administrative support to technical projects
  • Experience developing technical guidance
  • Experience interfacing with clients to identify technical requirements/needs
  • Experience preparing and providing summaries of relevant requirements for projects.
  • Experience developing and assisting with management of compliance programs for federal clients, including tasks audits, planning, reporting, data entry, and recordkeeping for multiple environmental media areas
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal organizations and facilities, such as the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and National Park Service
  • Experience in hazardous materials and hazardous waste management
  • Experience with environmental programs for federal agencies
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor
  • Must have good oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills
