Job Summary

The Charge Infusion Nurse-Lead at OWM Wellness will play a dual role as both a clinical leader and a hands-on provider of patient care. While leading the infusion team, this individual will oversee day-to-day operations in the infusion space, ensure staff competency, manage scheduling, and ensure adherence to clinical protocols. In addition to these leadership responsibilities, the Charge Infusion Nurse-Lead will also actively engage in direct patient care, providing IV therapy, medical ozone treatments, and other infusion-related services, as well as monitoring patient progress and ensuring patient safety throughout the treatment process. This position requires a combination of strong clinical expertise, leadership abilities, and the capacity to perform hands-on nursing duties as part of the infusion team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Supervision of Infusion Team:

  • Lead and Supervise Infusion Staff: Provide direct oversight and support to the infusion nursing team, offering guidance, feedback, and mentoring to ensure high standards of clinical care.
  • Assign Patients & Delegate Tasks: Coordinate patient assignments, ensuring that tasks are delegated based on team members' skill levels and the needs of each patient.
  • Manage Team Scheduling: Organize and maintain the infusion team’s schedule, ensuring adequate staffing to meet patient demand and optimize workflow. Address any staffing issues or conflicts that arise.
  • Monitor Staff Competency: Continuously assess and evaluate staff performance, ensuring that all team members are fully trained, competent, and aligned with OWM’s clinical standards and expectations.
  • Promote Team Culture: Foster a positive, team-oriented work culture that aligns with the organization’s values, promoting collaboration, respect, and patient-centered care.

2. Hands-On Patient Care & Infusion Therapy:

  • Administer Infusions and Ozone Treatments: Provide direct patient care by performing venipuncture, administering IV infusions, medical ozone therapies, and other prescribed treatments in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.
  • Monitor and Document Patient Response: Actively monitor patients during infusions, taking vital signs, observing for any adverse reactions, and documenting treatment progress accurately in the EMR system.
  • Respond to Patient Needs: Address patient concerns and discomfort during treatments, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to intervene in emergency situations related to infusion therapy, including allergic reactions or other complications, using established protocols to ensure patient safety.
  • Post-Treatment Follow-Up: Conduct post-treatment follow-ups with patients, assessing treatment outcomes, addressing questions, and ensuring proper aftercare instructions are provided.

3. Staff Training & Development:

  • Onboard New Staff: Oversee the orientation and training of new infusion nurses and support staff, ensuring they understand their roles, clinical protocols, and expectations for patient care.
  • Ensure Continuous Staff Development: Provide ongoing education and training opportunities to ensure staff remain up to date on best practices, infusion techniques, new treatments, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess Staff Competency: Regularly assess the clinical competency of the infusion team through observations, feedback, and performance evaluations. Identify training gaps and implement corrective action if necessary.

4. Operational Efficiency & Inventory Management:

  • Coordinate Daily Infusion Operations: Oversee the daily functions of the infusion space, ensuring that patients are treated in a timely manner, that the infusion area remains clean and organized, and that patient flow is optimized.
  • Manage Infusion Inventory: Ensure that adequate stock levels of IV medications, infusion supplies, and medical equipment are maintained. Work with the Clinical Manager to order and replenish supplies as needed.
  • Optimize Scheduling and Workflow: Collaborate with the scheduling team to ensure patient appointments are scheduled efficiently, minimize wait times, and ensure that the infusion space is used effectively.

5. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Ensure Compliance with Safety and Protocols: Ensure that all infusion-related activities comply with safety guidelines, infection control protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor Clinical Practices: Regularly review clinical practices, patient care standards, and outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement and implement necessary changes.
  • Participate in Quality Initiatives: Engage in quality assurance audits, contribute to evaluations of clinical performance, and participate in initiatives to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

6. Patient Experience & Satisfaction:

  • Promote a Healing Environment: Ensure the infusion space is a calm, welcoming, and healing environment for patients. This includes overseeing patient comfort, managing ambiance, and ensuring timely treatment delivery.
  • Enhance Patient Communication: Provide clear communication to patients regarding treatment plans, progress, and aftercare instructions. Address patient questions or concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Monitor Patient Satisfaction: Regularly assess patient satisfaction through feedback and surveys, and work with the team to address any concerns or improve the overall patient experience during infusion treatments.

  • High level of proficiency in IV access, infusion therapy, and patient monitoring. Must be hands-on in performing clinical duties while leading the team.

  • Strong attention to clinical detail, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and that patient care adheres to established protocols.

This position will require occasional evening hours and Saturday shifts as needed. The shifts are currently rotated between the team members.

Preferred Education & Experience

Education: 2-year college degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred.

Experience: 3-5 years of clinical experience, including hands-on experience in infusion therapy and patient monitoring. At least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role is preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Current CPR required.

Active NYS Registered Nurse license required.
