POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mental Health Counselor will provide our patients with professional mental health evaluations and cultivate treatment plans for patients with mental health issues. This role’s responsibility includes developing treatment plans, facilitating individual and group interventions and overseeing the overall mental health wellbeing of their patients. Ultimately, you will work directly with patients to help them overcome mental health issues and lead a healthier life.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Monitor progress throughout the treatment plan.
  • Collaborate on intervention plans with other mental health specialists, doctors, nurses, and social workers.
  • Follow up with psychiatrists and attending physicians for clients admitted to the hospital.
  • Identify and prevent behaviors that impede recovery.
  • Assist family members and primary caregivers in managing mental behavioral challenges.

Strategic Leadership

  • Evaluates patient’s mental, behavioral, and emotional health.
  • Develops appropriate intervention and recovery plans for individuals, couples, families, and groups.
  • Works directly with patients to help them overcome mental health issues and lead a healthier life.

Operational Excellence

  • Conducts preliminary interviews and documenting cases from the initial consultation to the end of treatment.
  • Plans and administers therapeutic treatment, behavior medication, and stress management therapy to assist patients in developing/displaying appropriate behaviors.
  • Clinically evaluates patients to detect indications of abnormal physical or mental behavior.

Collaboration and Reporting

  • Reviews results of psychological evaluations and evaluations from community providers to assess patient needs.
  • Consults external community providers concerning treatment plans and for coordination of care, as required.
  • Recognizes crisis situations, assesses potential danger to clients and/or others, and effectively intervene, complete Baker Acts, and assist with hospital transportation, as needed.

Compliance

  • Reviews results of psychological evaluations and evaluations from community providers to assess patient needs.
  • Maintains electronic case records that are in accordance with HIPPA guidelines and other federal and state regulations.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), as well as exceptional people skills.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities with a problem-solving mindset and a focus on team engagement and transparency.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and sympathetic nature.
  • Ability to read and understand clinical reports and professional literature.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while working professionally, courteously, collaboratively, and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions from supervisors, as well as comply with agency and county directives, state laws, licensing rules and regulations, and certification standards that cover mental health, and the chronically ill.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in mental health counseling or related field.
  • Relevant training and/or certifications as a Mental Health Counselor.
  • In-depth knowledge of the effects of drugs prescribed by medical specialists.
  • A specialized focus on pediatric practices is preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills.
