Job Description

Are you the kind of Payroll and Benefits professional who lights up when employees feel supported, leaders feel empowered, and culture thrives? Do you thrive in the fine print, making sure that every last detail is attended to?

Our client is searching for a people-first, culture-obsessed Payroll, Benefits and Onboarding Specialist to join their growing team. They truly care about their team members and need someone in this role to create the absolute best employee experience, taking care of every one of the 200 or so employees that count on the HR team.

This team is all about collaboration, growth, and making work a place people genuinely love. If you're someone who's very organized yet earnest, proactive yet approachable - and you get a thrill out of problem solving - keep reading. This could be the best move you make. If you're serious about this position and meet the qualifications, those sending a thoughtful cover letter explaining why and what you can bring to the table will most definitely be considered first – we'd like to get to know you a little before we speak!

What You'll Be Doing:

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the growing payroll, benefits and Onboarding activities of our client and will report directly to the Director of HR working closely with the HR manager. If you're looking for a great next step in your career, this position truly is it. This position offers you potential to grow with our organization while working with a highly collaborative team, especially for a candidate who steps into this role and owns it.

  • Run payroll like a pro for multiple organizations – making the most of current systems and finding cool new ways to make them even better.
  • Welcome new hires in style – handling everything from pre-hire steps and background checks to pay setup, benefits enrollment, and fun, informative orientation meetings.
  • Send folks off on the right note – wrapping up payroll, benefits, and equipment returns smoothly and efficiently.
  • Keep all the payroll-related HR paperwork neat, tidy, and in the right place – from employee files and FMLA forms to VOEs – all synced with payroll.
  • Be the go-to benefits guru – double-checking bills, matching deductions, handling short-term disability claims, and working directly with brokers and carriers.
  • Answer employee questions about payroll and benefits with a smile (and solid answers!).
  • Make benefits enrollment season a breeze – coordinating sign-ups and hosting engaging info sessions for teams in every location.
  • Lend a hand with retirement plan tasks like reporting and compliance when needed.
  • Partner with the HR Director and Manager to dream up and launch employee engagement ideas that actually stick.
  • Keep our HRIS database organized, up-to-date, and running smoothly.
  • Jump in to help with all-around HR projects and tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What Skills You Need to Bring With You

From a technical perspective, our ideal candidate will bring the following skills & experience with them:

  • Preferably a 4 year in Human Resources, Accounting or Business Administration, preferably with an HR emphasis. CPP accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Self-starter with multi-state payroll and benefits experience.
  • 4+ years of direct experience, with ability to work successfully as an individual contributor but also as part of a team.
  • Exceptional communication skills - you're easy to talk to, clear, emotionally intelligent, and really invested in the success of the people you support.
  • Curiosity and initiative - you're the kind of person who sees a challenge and says, "Let's figure it out."
  • Superhuman organizational skills - you can juggle priorities without dropping the ball and do it with a smile.
  • Passion for culture and the employee experience - you believe that when people thrive, companies do too.
  • Excellent HRIS experience, and computer skills including Office Suite and peripheral HR softwares.

Why You'll Love Working Here:

  • You'll have real influence and the opportunity to shape the employee experience from the inside out.
  • This is a people-first workplace that balances hard work and drive with fun – but with a healthy respect for your personal time.
  • Your ideas and input will matter - and they'll help shape a growing company's future.
  • You'll have a front-row seat to your own professional growth, with a lots of opportunity for career growth.
  • Did we mention the people? You'll be surrounded by smart, kind, motivated teammates and leadership.

Your Care Package Includes:

A competitive salary, great benefits, and the kind of work environment where people genuinely enjoy showing up fully each day. If this sounds just the role for you, send us your resume and a thoughtful cover letter about why this opportunity feels like the right one for you - we're excited to hear from you!
