Mercer University is searching for a Research Services Librarian, Social Sciences who contributes to the mission of the Mercer University Libraries and Tarver Library by providing innovative and effective Research Services through group instruction, one-on-one consultations, and the utilization of 24/7 reference instruction models and tools designed to support a diverse student body of undergraduates, graduates, and non-traditional students in a 21st-century library user environment. Responsibilities include serving as subject specialists and liaisons to different Mercer schools and departments on the Macon campus, contributing to patron-driven collection development, participating in orientations, student and staff functions, training, and events. Duties involve providing excellent customer service, offering in-depth subject reference and consultation services, selecting research resources, engaging in collection maintenance, preparing reports for accreditation and program reviews, collaborating with colleagues, working scheduled library hours including some evenings and weekends, attending meetings, supporting professional development, communicating library policies, assisting in outreach and public relations, completing projects and reports, and maintaining monthly activity reports. Instruction and professional development duties include sharing instruction responsibilities for interdisciplinary courses, embedding information literacy into the curriculum, planning and delivering course-integrated instruction, providing library orientations and instruction in research methods, maintaining knowledge of new resources, and teaching library electronic resources. Cloud-based/virtual services responsibilities include creating and maintaining discipline-specific and course-specific LibGuides, maintaining LibAnswers FAQ Knowledge Base, and creating/updating How-to videos. Qualifications require an MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution and relevant experience, proficiency with software such as LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibChat, Alma/Primo, social media, and Microsoft Office. Strong customer service skills, competence in online reference tools and social media, commitment to customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills, and reference experience in academic libraries are required.
