JOB PURPOSE:

The Researcher will conduct qualitative and quantitative studies to gather and analyze data related to missing and murdered Diné individuals. This role supports the MMDR project by developing research methodologies and providing data-driven insights to inform project objectives and policy recommendations.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct qualitative and quantitative research on missing and murdered Navajo individuals.
• Develop and implement research methodologies in line with community needs and cultural sensitivities.
• Analyze data and prepare reports to inform project initiatives and policy recommendations.
• Collaborate with community members, law enforcement, and other organizations to gather information.
• Ensure data integrity and ethical compliance in research activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Master's degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in conducting research, preferably within Indigenous or underserved communities.
• Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
• Familiarity with Navajo culture, language, and traditions is a plus.

• Skilled in operating computers and office machines.
• Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
• Ability to organize and express ideas, directions, and data in a logical sequence to describe a process or explain procedures such as how to perform a task to students.
• Ability to present materials effectively to individuals or groups.
• Ability to manage interpersonal conflict situations requiring tact, diplomacy and discretion.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively in the English language.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.
• Use hands for dexterity of motion, repetitive movement of both hands.
• Have excellent auditory, visual acuity, and verbal communications skills.
• The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Work is typically performed within an office, or in the field.
• Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
• Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
