Summary function: Fosters productive relationships and communications between The Florida Bar and the general public, the media and Bar members. Works independently with general guidelines in planning and implementation of programs, uses creativity in message composition and in designing promotional and informational communications, exercises considerable control over expenditures and budgeting. Coordinates with others outside of the department and has extensive liaison duties at all levels within the Bar and with the public, media and Bar members.
Required minimum education: Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field (proof of degree required at interview).
Required minimum professional work experience: Five (5) years of experience in journalism, communications, media relations, marketing or public relations/public information or other related fields.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Media relations and management: continuously reviews news coverage of the courts and legal systems, and recommends need for response, correction or clarification; writes and sends news releases, op/eds, letters to the editor and other materials for media/public information; maintains media lists, profiles and subscriptions; serves as a contact for the news media, particularly for disciplinary case information, and makes referrals to other Bar or non-Bar sources, researches responses to queries and provides public records. Coordinates compilation of monthly disciplinary news release and distribution.
Serves as staff liaison to the Media & Communications Law Committee: coordinates meetings and activities including making all physical arrangements, registration, budget management, promotion and follow-up for the (1) Reporters Workshop; (2) Media Awards; and (3) First Amendment and the U.S. Supreme Court seminar at annual convention. Assists the committee in ensuring that frequent updates are made to the Reporters Handbook.
Serves as staff liaison to the Law Related Education Committee: coordinates meetings and programs including managing the Legal Survival Guide website and social media. Create and distribute targeted promotional ads and produce new content in the form of blog posts and LSC content. Implement and staff Moot Court program.
Assists with public education projects of the Constitutional Judiciary Committee including the judicial feedback forms, judicial candidate voluntary self-disclosure forms and merit retention poll, Guide for Florida Voters (including Spanish translation) and the Votes in Your Court webpage. Work to create Benchmarks lessons and promote them throughout the Bar and state.
Performs other duties as assigned, but not limited to: posting to the website, proofing materials for publication and distribution, answering departmental phone lines and assisting or referring callers.
Additional information: Designated by ED to represent TFB on social media platforms used and monitored by TFB.
