Senior Ocean Export Specialist – Freight Forwarding (Direct Hire)

Location: Long Beach, CA 90802 | Schedule: Hybrid (2–3 days onsite/week)

Compensation: $55,000–$63,000 + Discretionary Bonus + Excellent Benefits

Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (PST)

Wheeler Staffing Partners is hiring a Senior Ocean Export Specialist on behalf of a global logistics leader based in Long Beach, CA . This is a direct hire opportunity with a flexible hybrid schedule, excellent benefits, and significant career growth potential. The role is ideal for professionals with deep expertise in international ocean exports and freight forwarding, particularly within the APAC region.

Position Overview

This role will lead and coordinate the end-to-end process of ocean freight forwarding operations—80% export-focused and 20% import support. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in ocean exports, exceptional organizational skills, and experience with logistics systems such as Cargowise .

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle ocean freight forwarding operations, from booking to delivery and customs clearance.
• Coordinate with clients to understand shipping requirements and provide tailored logistics solutions.
• Negotiate rates and terms with ocean carriers and other transportation providers.
• Prepare and validate all shipping documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and certificates of origin.
• Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, tariffs, and customs requirements.
• Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve issues such as delays, rerouting, or holds.
• Track and analyze logistics trends for process improvement and cost efficiency.
• Generate accurate invoicing and process payments to carriers, vendors, and overseas agents.
• Perform other logistics-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field or a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.
• 3–5 years of direct experience in ocean export freight forwarding , including coordination with the APAC region.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong understanding of freight documentation, shipping regulations, and international trade practices.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
• Experience using logistics software such as Cargowise is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Cargowise system experience.
• Fluency in a language spoken in the APAC region is a plus.
