We are building an automated chemistry platform that integrates laboratory robotics, software, and AI to transform small-molecule synthesis and drug discovery. The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Scientist in Synthetic Chemistry to join our team. The successful candidate will lead the development of laboratory-based chemistry workflows, contribute advanced expertise in reaction design and troubleshooting, and play a key role in developing new technologies and strategies that support our research and development goals. This role requires both strong technical leadership and the ability to mentor junior scientists. Expected Outcomes By Day 30, You Will Have Generated your first chemical dataset to contribute to a predictive model in collaboration with our Platform team. Proposed a framework for accessing new chemical space and outlined 5 new chemical reactions for the automated platform. By Day 90, You Will Have Begun mentoring junior scientists in the lab. Developed your first automated chemical reaction. Contributed to the development of custom software for automated experiment planning, tracking, and execution. By Year 1, You Will Have Developed conditions for the automated synthesis platform for 10 chemical transformations that can enable multistep synthesis. Contributed to the training and validation of predictive models instrumental to the success of the automated synthesis platform. Become independently impactful, leading chemistry efforts from the lab and proposing new directions for the chemistry team. By Year 5, You Will Have An established expertise in automated chemical synthesis. Led a small team of chemists to develop conditions for 50 chemical transformations for the automated synthesis platform. Proposed and implemented a new technology for the automated synthesis platform which expands the accessible chemical space. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, execution, and optimization of synthetic routes for novel compounds. Stay current with emerging trends and innovations in synthetic and medicinal chemistry to inform strategic decision-making. Apply advanced problem-solving approaches to non-routine chemistry challenges and drive solutions that enhance overall platform functionality and success. Guide the design and implementation of new reactions, methodologies, and technology campaigns to expand platform capabilities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute on multidisciplinary initiatives including machine learning, laboratory automation, and software development. Provide scientific and technical mentorship to junior scientists. Qualifications PhD in organic chemistry or related discipline + 4 years of relevant industry experience (or MS + 7 years, or BS + 10 years). Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, including multistep synthesis and reaction optimization. Record of innovation and impactful contributions to research programs. Experience in high throughput experimentation, laboratory automation, and/or data science preferred. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems and deliver creative solutions. Prior experience mentoring junior scientists. Overview Of Satomic's Interview Process 15-minute phone screen: the hiring manager will contact you to schedule a 10-15 minute call. Note that this is not evaluative, but merely a chance for Satomic and our candidates to discuss what to expect in the process and answer any early questions. 3 x 45 minute interviews: the hiring manager will coordinate a block where you can have three 45 minute interviews back to back with different members of the Satomic team, who will ask questions about your past experience and fit for the role. 90 minute final round: candidates that are selected for the final round will be asked to present on their past work relevant to the open position (45 minutes) and discuss a representative scenario ("case study") live with the interview panel (45 minutes). The scenario will be given to the candidate prior to the final interview. Why Join Satomic?
