SLAC Tour Guide Job ID 6258 Location SLAC - Menlo Park, CA Part-Time Temporary **SLAC Job Postings** **Position Overview:** The Office of Communications seeks to communicate the vitality and breadth of science at the laboratory. Working closely with SLAC staff, the Office drives SLAC's internal and external communication efforts and promotes the laboratory's mission through effective and imaginative communications to a wide range of audiences including the general public, press and media, educators, congressional representatives, funding agencies and members of the local community. We are seeking a highly motivated Tour Guide to join our Public Tour Program. As a SLAC Tour Guide, you will support the laboratory's tour program and lead an interesting interactive tour program that advances SLAC¿s outreach activities to diverse audiences. **Your specific responsibilities include:** + Deliver an introductory overview of SLAC's mission, history, science and accomplishments using visual aids such as animations and multimedia, PowerPoint presentations and other exhibits. + Provide a physical tour of SLAC¿s publicly accessible visitor areas explaining the scientific developments and activities as they relate to that area. + Provide quality customer service with tour check-in, audience engagement. + Ensure tours do not negatively impact ongoing work at SLAC use good judgment if encountering unexpected circumstances. + Manage the tour paperwork and follow administrative processes such as badging, key access etc., when necessary. + Support SLAC Tours Program Manager in day-to-day tasks and route operations, as required. + May be required to operate a vehicle on site. **Note** : This is a non-benefits eligible casual-nonexempt position (work less than 50% full-time equivalent), not to exceed 980 hours in a calendar year. Work on-call (maximum of eight hours per week) **To be successful in this position you will bring:** + Bachelor's degree in science physics, applied physics, chemistry, biology, computer science or related fields or equivalent work experience (advanced degree preferred).
