The division of Medical Education within the UC San Diego School of Medicine consists of the following units: Undergraduate Medical Education, Admissions & Student Affairs, Diversity and Community Partnerships, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development, Simulation Education, Physician Assistant Education, Anatomical Services, Business Affairs and Educational Technology. The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of approximately 560 medical students, 90 physician assistant students, 1000 residents and fellows as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD’s School of Medicine, its Medical Centers, and affiliates. Applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners. Coordinates program operations, which include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. The Standardized Patient Educator’s (SPE) basic function and responsibility is to support education programs and curricula involving standardized or simulated patients (SP) on behalf of the Professional Development Center (PDC) for UCSD School of Medicine (SOM), UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS), Atkinson Physician Assistant Education Program, Graduate Medical Education (GME), and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The Real Patient Program Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, management and oversight of actual patients with real medical findings for UCSD School of Medicine. Responsibilities Recruit, hire, train and oversee SPs participating in educational events. Collaborate in the development, editing and maintenance of SP cases/scenarios. Develop training materials and resources. Coordinate, manage and support PDC events as needed. Work closely with Simulation Education Director, faculty, staff, students, and SPs. Maintain ongoing professional development of knowledge and skills by attending and participating in meetings, workshops, seminars, reviewing published literature and initiating independent study projects. Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the Standardized Patient Program Manager and the Simulation Education Director. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor assigning duties logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications Six years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training. Basic knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of health professions education industry. Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems. Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program. Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner. Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department and with learners. Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to work with extremely complex faculty calendars / schedules requires extremely well organized and detail oriented precision. Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues. Must demonstrate mastery of the SimCapture Clinical Skills Assessment System along with the ability to troubleshoot issues. Investigative, data analysis, and reporting skills. Ability to generate computer reports, checking for errors, correcting and submitting accurate reports. Skills include entering, maintaining, extracting, and analyzing data in electronic systems. Special Conditions Employment is subject to a criminal background check. Compensation Annual Full Pay Range: $65,125 - $94,858 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $31.19 - $45.43 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
