Provides comprehensive Arboriculture Care for Boys Town. Operates heavy machinery and equipment to accomplish duties of the job. Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:30a.m.-3:00p.m. On-Call for weather events. Major responsibilities include establishing and implementing annual arboriculture management plan using up-to-date methods and Integrated Pest Management, pruning for health, vigor, safety and form, assessing and correcting damage, reviewing work performed by others, planting trees with proper care, operating equipment such as tree spade, high reach, chain saws, chipper, ladders, ropes, tractor, auger, and related equipment. Implements Hazard Tree Program to identify and remediate potential or existing hazardous tree conditions. Installs, inspects, and maintains tree cables and braces. Ensures general work-site safety and completes site cleanup after tree care operations. Assists in snow removal and responds to call-in requests. May perform duties of Equipment Operator and Grounds Maintenance Specialist. Supervises temporary summer grounds crew. Requires advanced chain saw use and felling techniques, climbing techniques, knowledge of tree biology, insect and disease identification, pesticide application, equipment use and maintenance, instructional and communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to travel to multiple sites. Minimum three years field experience required in chemical application, spraying, injections, tree identification, pruning, planting, and removals. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. On-call availability required. Must obtain Nebraska certified pesticide and herbicide applicator license within 6 months of hire. Certification in City of Omaha Forester Certificate - First Class, NAA Certified Arborist, or ISA Certified Arborist required within 6 months of hire. Certified in-house to operate boom truck, forklift, and front-end loader post-hire. Physical requirements include moderate to very heavy physical work, lifting up to 70 pounds unassisted and over 100 pounds with assistance, working at heights of 10 feet or more, exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures and inclement weather, dust, allergens, noise, pesticides, and herbicides.
