Import Operations Manager

Our client, a reputable logistics organization located near IAH, is seeking an experienced Import Operations Manager to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with a strong benefits package and a collaborative company culture.

Position Overview:
The Import Manager will lead a team of 25, ensuring operational excellence across all import functions. This role is responsible for resolving customer concerns, driving process efficiency, maintaining compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, and providing critical reporting to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of 25 import professionals to ensure high performance and productivity.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints promptly and effectively.
  • Monitor departmental performance and implement process improvements to drive efficiency and service quality.
  • Establish and enforce import procedures and policies aligned with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver daily and monthly operational reports to executive management.
  • Ensure full compliance with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations; manage and mitigate customs fines and penalties, especially for rail shipments.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting department to ensure timely reconciliation and current status of client accounts.
  • Oversee the creation and handling of IJOS (Import Job Order System) documentation.
  • Generate 3PI (Third Party Invoice) documentation for DEM (Demurrage) checks received from terminals.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in import operations with extensive knowledge of U.S. import regulations and customs compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with prior experience managing a large team.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, reporting, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
